Caring staff combined with continuing education ensures Keosauqua Health Care Center is working to improve upon the services they provide to local seniors. Not only do we strive to meet the physical needs of each Resident but also their psychosocial well being.

Kayla Huntington – Administrator, LNHA, MSW
Kayla Huntington is the Administrator at Keosauqua Health Care Center. Kayla’s biggest role is to support the team of caregivers that provide vital services to the people that choose to live in our facility. She has a Master’s Degree in Social Work and achieved her Nursing Home Administrator License in 2016. Kayla enjoys being part of a smaller community and loves the fact that the local businesses want what is best for one another. Kayla likes spending time with her son, family, and friends. She enjoys playing games, doing puzzles with the residents, listening to music, and traveling. A fun fact about Kayla is that she loves Tai food, Whitey’s ice cream, and chai tea lattes with extra chai! Kayla’s goal is to lead by example and promote always doing what is best for our customers, families, and co-workers.
Kelsey Fitch – Director of Nursing
Kelsey Fitch is our Nurse Manager here at Keosauqua Health Care Center. Kelsey began working with adults with disabilities at the age of twenty and continued this while attending nursing school. Kelsey graduated from Indian Hills Community College in 2014 as a Registered Nurse. Kelsey has experience in the nursing field as she worked in acute care/medical/surgical/telemetry floor at Ottumwa Regional Hospital. Kelsey joined our team in January of 2018. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, and her son! Together with her family, Kelsey enjoys spending time on their farm with their cattle, riding four wheelers, going to the lake, and traveling. A fun fact about Kelsey is that she can sing all 50 states in alphabetical order!
Tara Chiri - Community Liaison Director
Tara is our Community Liaison Director here at Keosauqua Health Care Center. She does all things admissions, referrals, marketing, and community relations. After Tara graduated college, she started working at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics within the psychiatry department. After working there for 10 years, Tara decided to move closer to her home of West Point to be closer to family. Tara is married, has two children, and a dog named Bruce. She enjoys spending time outside and playing sand volleyball. Tara has always enjoyed working in the health care field and finds long-term care especially rewarding.
Marley Hall – Activities Director
Marley is the Life Enrichment Coordinator here at Keosauqua Health Care Center. Prior to her job at the facility, Marley completed an internship at the Psychiatric Unit and Rehabilitation Unit at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. Marley graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Recreation, where she also played Division I basketball. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends. Marley loves being an aunt to her 3 nephews and 3 nieces, and she has a strong passion for sports. Fun fact, Marley has recently started coaching in our area and is really enjoying herself so far! Marley joined our team in January of 2016 and is the “Dog Mom” to our facility dog, King! Marley was the recipient of Ide Management Group’s Life Enrichment Coordinator of the Year in 2018 and is a great asset to our team!
Sharon Feldmann – Business Office Manager
Sharon is our Business Office Manager here at Keosauqua Health Care Center. Sharon started with Good Samaritan VB in 2010 and stayed on through the transition of becoming Keosauqua Health Care Center. Sharon enjoys working in long-term care and has always worked in the healthcare field. A fun fact about Sharon is that she enjoys riding her Harley-Davidson with her husband and taking trips to new places. Sharon really loves to go antiquing with her friends and relaxing on her family’s fishing boat.
Calla Mallett - Assistant Director of Nursing
Josh Wiley – Maintenance Director
Josh is our Maintenance Director and EVS Director here at Keosauqua Health Care Center. Josh worked many years at VBCH in maintenance before coming to the Keosauqua Health Care Center in June of 2015. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his daughter, and also owns a side business removing snow in the winter. A fun fact about Josh is that he likes to travel, particularly out West! In 2016, Josh was named IMG’s Maintenance Man of the Year!
Kathy Tyson – Director of Social Services, RN, BSN
Kathy Tyson is our Director of Social Services here at KHCC. Kathy earned her BSN from Iowa Wesleyan. She worked in many nursing positions before becoming the MDS Coordinator for Good Samaritan VB in 2015. From there, she transitioned into the role of Social Services Director for the Keosauqua Health Care Center. In her free time, Kathy enjoys spending time with her family and friends with picnics, camping, campfires, and riding horses. Kathy loves the mountains and enjoys vacations that include her horses. During the year, Kathy attends many rodeo events with her family as her daughter is a rodeo queen and nephews ride broncs and bulls. A fun fact about Kathy is that she used to dress up as “ Polly Esther” the clown and volunteer at local hospitals!
Abbie Pilcher - Dietary Manager
Abbie is our Dietary Manager for Keosauqua Health Care Center. Abbie started working here as a cook and transitioned to the Assistant CDM for the next two years before officially taking her current role. Abbie went to school for Culinary Arts and has her AAS degree. She has her own bakery “Abbie’s Sweet Treats,” that she frequently brings in for the residents to enjoy. She is married and has three fur babies at home. Abbie enjoys spending time outside with her family. Fun fact, Abbie spent 21 days in Europe in 2008 with the People to People student Ambassador Program.
Dr. Dana Brecount – Medical Director, DO
Doctor Brecount is the Medical Director here at Keosauqua Health Care Center and she also is a Family Physician at Van Buren County Hospital. She grew up in Southeast Iowa and completed her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science at the University of Iowa, then later graduated from Des Moines University in 2010 as a Doctor of Osteopathy. Doctor Brecount completed her residency in Kirksville, Missouri at Northeast Regional Medical Center and then started her career at Van Buren County Hospital in 2013. She joined Keosauqua Health Care Center as the Medical Director in 2015. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and two boys. During the summer she and her family enjoy going boating and four-wheeling. A fun fact about our Medical Director is that she has run four half marathons! Doctor Brecount is a great asset as the Medical Director here, and we really enjoy the resident-centered care that she provides.
Karen Schmitt – Director of Rehabilitation Reliant
Karen Schmitt is our Therapy Coordinator for Reliant Therapy. She is a Speech Pathologist within the therapy department. She received her undergrad degree from Iowa State University and a Masters in Speech Pathology from the University of Iowa. Her first job out of school was in long-term care, followed by a variety of setting serving all ages, and back to long-term care for the past 12 years. She has worked at Keosauqua Health Care Center since 2018. Rumor has it, Karen makes the best scotcheroos in the state but we might be biased. Karen can also sing the Greek alphabet!
Samantha Trejo – MDS Coordinator
Samantha is our MDS coordinator for Keosauqua Health Care Center. Originally from Ft. Worth, Texas, and working as a cosmetologist, she was inspired by the fantastic care her son received by his nursing staff, Samantha made a career change. She moved to southeast Iowa and got her ADN from Southeastern Community College in West Burlington in 2015. She became a nurse and has not looked back! She has worked in Hospice and The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on the Respiratory Specialty/Palliative Unit but has spent much of her nursing career in long-term care. When Samantha has spare time, she stays busy being a mom to three sons and one daughter and a cat named Marcus. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends and hosting game nights.
Lakin Yates – COVID Officer
Lakin is our Covid-19 officer here at Keosauqua Health Care Center. She has been working in the healthcare field for 12 years and is an essential part of our team here! She has been a phlebotomist since 2019, a restorative aid, certified nursing assistant and now, our Covid-19 officer. She is also a recipient of our Customer Service Superstar nominated by her peers. She enjoys working with the elderly and their families. In her free time, Lakin enjoys reading and staying busy. She has two kids and loves being outdoors fishing, hunting, and riding motorcycles.
King – Facility Dog
King is our facility dog here at Keosauqua Health Care Center, and he is a Husky/Mastiff mix! He was adopted by our facility in April of 2016. At the time of his adoption, King had a fractured femur - we were able to partner with Iowa State University to fix his femur and rehabilitate him. King enjoys spending time with the residents and he resides with Marley, our Activities Director. King’s favorite activities include napping, barking during exercise, and playing in the courtyard with the rabbits and squirrels. A fun fact about King is that he loves to lay in snow.
