Abbie Pilcher | Customer Service Superstar of the Year 2018

We are truly proud to call this superstar our own! This employee is motivated, organized, and has stepped up in our facility in ways that we never knew she would need to. Recently, our dietary manager has had to be out of the building on early maternity leave – growing her family! We are always thankful, but especially during this time of unexpected need, we are especially thankful for Abbie Pilcher! Abbie is a cook here at the Keosauqua Health Care Center, and she has done a great job filling the shoes of our dietary manager in her time away. When Abbie was approached about the upcoming maternity leave, she did not hesitate when asked to step up and become a Certified Dietary Manager. In doing so, she became nationally recognized as an expert at managing dietary operations, and has joined one of the top levels of nutrition and foodservice managers in the field.

This next point is a common theme in our facility, but Abbie is no exception to the rule. She is a team player in the dietary department, but she is also willing to step up in a time of need for activities and/or weekend manager duties. She has also taken time out of her every day duties to become an active frontline staff member in our spirit committee. This really is a commitment, seeing as food plays a big role in our events and staff appreciation. This involves ordering all the food, correctly staffing the dietary department if the event will be bigger than expected, and helping prepare the food during the actual event. That is no easy feat for someone experienced in the job, let alone someone who was thrown into it earlier than expected.

Abbie has shown great confidence and composure when taking on these new tasks. She completes the dietary schedule, she picks up extra shifts in her department, and she helps the leadership team when needed. She is also flexible with her staff, and assists in keeping our residents best interest at heart. Abbie is a positive promoter of our monthly resident choice meals, and does a great job making sure that we have everything that we need to have a successful meal. In addition to our every day meals, Abbie is helping us plan for our 2nd Annual Halloween and Family Literacy Night! This event serves over 200 children and their families, and provides them with a safe and fun night to celebrate Halloween.  Lastly, she is helping us plan our Annual Holiday Meal for our residents and their family members. This involves serving a five course meal to about 200 people, and trust us when we say that it is a very busy event! We are thankful to have Abbie on our team, and we are proud of the growth and leadership skills we have seen in such a short period of time.
